1. General

 

1.1     Salt Lake City values diversity as a key element of fairness, creativity, and public service.  Therefore the City will take affirmative action to recruit, hire, train, retain, and promote qualified individuals who will add to the diversity of our work force.  The City will undertake outreach programs to fulfill its goal of a diverse workforce, consistent with applicable city, state and federal laws.

 

1.2     Salt Lake City managers shall make every effort, to the extent allowed by law, to have a workforce that reflects the diversity of our community.

 

1.3     Department and division directors, following Federal regulations and guidelines, will undertake an annual self-evaluation in which they analyze and report barriers, challenges, outreach strategies, successes and goals related to greater workforce diversity, and will provide this self-evaluation to the Mayor and to the Division of Human Resource Management.

 

1.4     The Human Resource Management Division, following Federal regulations and guidelines, will prepare annual updates of the City’s Affirmative Action Plan and assist City leaders and managers with diversity initiatives and affirmative action plans.

 

1.5     This Executive Order is intended to provide direction to the Human Resource Management Division and to supervisory employees of Salt Lake City Corporation not under the direct control or supervision of the Salt Lake City Council.
