Appointment And Oath Of Office For “At Will Employees”

Preface

 

 

This Executive Order applies to all Salt Lake City Corporation employees who are “at will” except for those employees who are under the direct control or supervision of the Salt Lake City Council. 

 

Under Salt Lake City Ordinance 2.04.010, the Mayor’s powers and duties include:  “Hiring and making all appointments regarding all executive department employees, officers and agents (subject to the advice and consent of the council where required by state law).” 

 

Under Salt Lake City Ordinance 2.42.010, an oath of office must be taken by specified appointed officers and by “officers or employees designated by the mayor by executive order who hold positions of trust or unique responsibility.” 

 

 Therefore, I enact this Executive Order:

 

1.       General

 

1.1     According to the Compensation Plan for Salt Lake City Corporation, “Appointed Employees” (with the exception of Justice Court judges or employees of the Office of City Council) are “at-will” employees serving at the pleasure and by the appointment of the Mayor.

 

1.2     All positions appointed by the Mayor are positions of trust or unique responsibility.  Accordingly, all officers or employees appointed by the Mayor shall, before entering their respective duties and offices, take and subscribe the constitutional oath of office.  The oath shall be filed with the City Recorder.
